Let’s take a look at what online-hailing apps in Taiwan are currently available!!!!!!!
Taiwan Taxi 55688
Taiwan Taxi is one of the main taxi companies in Taiwan. Since its hailing phone number is 55688, many people also called it this name. In terms of the app of Taiwan Taxi, it provides multiple services, such as general taxi, multi-taxi (comfort, luxury, business), designated driver and airport shuttle. If you don’t like cars with yellow color, you can then choose “multi-taxi”. Vary from other taxis, the appearance of multi-taxi is not yellow. Actually, it looks totally the same as other normal vehicles. The only difference is that its license plate numbers are red but not black.
In addition to the diversity of taxi services, Taiwan Taxi also offers multiple payment methods. Not only cash will be accepted, consumers can pay by credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay as well. That is to say, foreigners don’t need to worry about not carrying any Taiwanese currency with them.
Taiwan Metro Taxi 55178
The idea of Taiwan Metro Taxi is extremely similar to Taiwan Taxi. If you want to get a taxi by phone, just called 55178 to hail it. Otherwise you should download their app. Taiwan Metro Taxi’s app is very user-friendly, simply move the red man on the map to your calling point, the address will be displayed to hail a taxi immediately. Of course you can also enter the address manually.
Before confirming the order, the same as Taiwan Taxi, consumers can choose which types of Taxis are they going to hail. The estimated fares will be shown, and can be paid by various payment methods.
However, the drawback of both Taiwan Taxi and Taiwan Metro Taxi is that they do not have English versions. It might be slightly difficult for non-Chinese speakers to understand how to use the apps.
The greatest advantage of Find Taxi is that it finally is available in English. The interface of the App is quite intuitive. First, choose the type of your order: airport transfers, scheduled taxis, instant taxis, or nearby drivers. Then enter the pick-up and drop-off points, the estimated fare will come out. Before deciding to hail a taxi, you can also choose your specific needs, such as smoke-free cars, accessible cars, pet-friendly cars, female drivers, English or Japanese understanding, etc. For people who don’t like to chat with drivers, solving all the problems before get on the car will be perfect.
Another distinctive feature of Find Taxi is that consumers can have a look of the reviews of drivers nearby. This practice can more or less reduce passengers’ concerns about drivers.
In order to compare Taxi companies with Uber, here I also provide the information of Uber in Taiwan. The benefit of Uber is that it is an international app. People might already have it on their phones. In other words, there is no need to download a new app.
However, Uber really is not as convenient as Taxi in Taiwan. Due to the policy problem, the number of Uber drivers has dropped significantly. This indirectly influences the time customers need to wait. In addition, Uber merely operates in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Taoyuan and Hsinchu. If you are going to somewhere outside these cities, Uber is totally not available to use. That is why I won’t recommend Uber in Taiwan.
Different from Uber, Uber Eats is super popular in Taiwan. If you are interested in food delivery apps, please have a look on my another article “7 useful apps you need while living in Taiwan (Taipei)“.
